Welcome to Kahf ("we," "our," or "the App"). Kahf is a mindful digital wellbeing and distraction-blocking application designed to help users curb excessive short-form video consumption, reclaim focus, and build intentional habits.

Our Foundational Principle: Kahf is built with privacy-first, on-device architecture. We do not collect, transmit, sell, or rent your personal data, app usage statistics, browsing history, or location to remote servers. All calculations, streak tracking, intention logs, and timers occur strictly locally on your Android device.

2. Android Permissions & How We Use Them

To deliver its distraction-curbing and screen-time budgeting features, Kahf requests specific Android permissions. Each permission is used exclusively for on-device functionality:

A. Usage Access (android.permission.PACKAGE_USAGE_STATS)

Purpose: Allows Kahf to detect when user-selected protected apps (e.g., YouTube, TikTok, Instagram, X/Twitter, Snapchat) are running in the foreground and calculate elapsed screen time in real time.
Data Handling: Used solely in memory on your device to enforce user-configured daily limits. Kahf does not read your in-app messages, search history, keystrokes, personal media, or content. Usage metrics are never uploaded to any remote server.

B. Display Over Other Apps (android.permission.SYSTEM_ALERT_WINDOW) & Full Screen Intent

Purpose: Enables Kahf to display a mindful intervention screen (e.g., breathing pause, intention checkpoint, or limit-reached shield) when the user reaches their configured screen-time threshold.
Data Handling: This is a display-only UI mechanism. It does not monitor or capture screen contents or user input.

C. Location Access (ACCESS_FINE_LOCATION, ACCESS_COARSE_LOCATION) — Optional

Purpose: If enabled by the user in Settings, geographical latitude and longitude coordinates are used solely to compute precise Islamic prayer times (Fajr, Dhuhr, Asr, Maghrib, Isha) using standard astronomical formulas.
Data Handling: Processed ephemerally on-device. Your location is never logged, stored on servers, or shared with any third party. Users can disable location permissions at any time, in which case prayer times are calculated using the device’s system timezone.

D. Foreground Service (FOREGROUND_SERVICE, FOREGROUND_SERVICE_SPECIAL_USE)

Purpose: Required by Android to run the continuous background monitoring loop and maintain a persistent status bar notification showing today's remaining screen-time allowance without being terminated by Android battery optimizations.
Subtype Justification: Meets Google Play's specialUse foreground service requirements for screen-time management and digital distraction prevention.

E. Notifications (android.permission.POST_NOTIFICATIONS)

Purpose: To display the ongoing status bar indicator for active screen time allowances and alert you when your limit is reached.

3. Information We Do NOT Collect

  • We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) such as real names, phone numbers, or addresses.
  • We do not collect or read account passwords, social media messages, or in-app activity.
  • We do not track browsing history, website URLs, or network traffic.
  • We do not use third-party analytics SDKs that profile or track users across apps or websites.

4. Data Storage & User Control

All app preferences (such as your chosen daily allowance, enabled blocking rules, intention logs, and streak count) are stored locally in private application sandbox storage (AsyncStorage and SQLite) on your device.

Data Deletion: You can completely and irreversibly erase all stored data at any time by:

  1. Navigating to Android Settings › Apps › Kahf › Storage & Cache › Clear Storage, or
  2. Uninstalling the Kahf app from your device.

5. Children's Privacy (COPPA & GDPR Compliance)

Kahf is intended for general audiences (students, professionals, and adults seeking mindful digital habits). The app does not solicit or knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13.

6. Security

Because all data remains strictly on your local device within the Android secure application sandbox, your metrics are not exposed to remote data breaches, external network interception, or third-party tracking.
